Events in Trento: the year's calendar, from Film Festival to Christmas market

Trento is a small city with the calendar of a capital: international festivals of film, economics and sport, the patron saint's festivities and, in winter, one of the best-loved Christmas markets in the Alps. Here you will find the main events in the order of the year, with the dates already announced. On the days of the big events, accommodation in the centre sells out quickly: it is best to book well in advance.

Winter: the Christmas market

The Christmas market fills Piazza Fiera, at the foot of the medieval walls, and Piazza Mostra, in front of Buonconsiglio Castle, with wooden chalets. The 2026 edition is announced for 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. With crafts, local products and mulled wine, it is the most sought-after time of the year: the Advent weekends, and above all the Immacolata long weekend, need to be booked months ahead. In winter Monte Bondone, half an hour from the centre, opens its ski and cross-country pistes.

March: the Fiera di San Giuseppe

Around 19 March the traditional Fiera di San Giuseppe brings stalls and families into the streets of the centre. Between February and March there is also Carnival, with events in the districts.

Spring: Trento Film Festival and Festival dell'Economia

The Trento Film Festival is the film festival devoted to mountains, exploration and adventure, accompanied by MontagnaLibri, the mountain publishing fair. The 2026 edition took place from 24 April to 3 May; the next is announced for 30 April to 9 May 2027.

At the end of May comes the Festival dell'Economia, the economics festival: five days of talks with economists, Nobel laureates, ministers and journalists in theatres and squares. The 2026 edition, from 20 to 24 May, featured around 350 events and recorded roughly 45,000 attendances. Most of the talks are free, but many require booking.

June: the Feste Vigiliane

At the end of June Trento celebrates its patron saint, San Vigilio, with the Feste Vigiliane: days of historical re-enactments, costume parades, shows and traditional games in the squares and on the Adige. It is when the city pours out into the streets.

Summer: the city and the mountains

In summer the calendar moves up to altitude too: evenings under the stars and concerts at the Terrazza delle Stelle on Monte Bondone, events in the mountain huts and in the villages around the city. In the city, evenings are spent in the squares and on the terraces of the centre.

September: the Trentodoc Festival

The Trentodoc Festival devotes three days to mountain bubbles, with tastings, talks and wineries open in Trento and the province. In 2026 it ran from 25 to 27 September. October: the Festival dello Sport

The Festival dello Sport brings champions and leading figures from every discipline to Trento, with free talks in theatres and squares. The ninth edition took place from 1 to 4 October 2026. In autumn the wineries and valleys around the city also celebrate the grape harvest and seasonal produce.

All year: theatre and music

The Teatro Sociale and the Auditorium Santa Chiara run seasons of drama, concerts and dance from October to spring. The exhibitions at Buonconsiglio Castle and the MUSE change several times a year: you will find them in our guide to the museums of Trento.

Tips for the days of the big events

• Book early: during the Christmas market, the Festival dell'Economia and the Festival dello Sport, the homes in the centre sell out weeks ahead.
• Arrive by train: the station is ten minutes' walk from the squares. If you arrive by car, choose a home with a garage.
• Check the official dates: programmes come out a few weeks beforehand, on the organisers' and the tourist office's websites.
